Jesus...the hope of the world - Hebrews 4:14-16

One of the most unfortunate characterizations of the Church is that believers sit inside their comfortable churches while just a few feet away people are lost and dying. Believers are called to share the hope of Jesus Christ with the world. When is the last time you shared the story of Christ with someone? If you're searching for the words, here are a few reasons Christ will always be the greatest giver of hope for those lost and found.

1. Jesus Is Reliable (v. 14) = Jesus is the true High Priest who stands in as a mediator between us and God. He wants us to know that we can trust Him.

2. Jesus Is Relatable (v. 15) = When we feel that Jesus cannot relate to us or understand the daily challenges we face, we must remember that He has been tempted in every way.

3. Jesus Is Responsible (v. 16) = Jesus promises that He will respond if we come boldly to the throne.

Text Questions from Sunday July 26th

by oneadmin    |   Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 10:55:00 PM

How do you talk to people about God who say they are Christian but their fruits show something different?

This is a good question. We have to be careful when questioning the genuineness of someone’s salvation just because their fruit does not match their confession. With that said, we should always speak with love to our brothers and sisters in Christ even when their actions may not be appropriate. If you see them doing something that threatens the witness of Christ, it’s always appropriate to confront, but always do it with love.

Sermon Questions

by oneadmin    |   Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 11:33:00 PM

Question 1: What helps a husband remember that he should put his wife before his mother?

Since knowledge of the context in which this question is being asked is not clear the answer is intentionally generic. It may be helpful to recall that in Genesis the man leaves his mother and cleaves to his wife. The man’s priority shifts from his mother to his wife. She now becomes the woman for whom he is ultimately responsible. This is not to suggest that the man cannot maintain a relationship with his mother. However, he must be considerate of his wife, making sure to involve her in the relationship as well since they are now one flesh.

Question 2: What can a man do if he has already broken the mirror that helps her feel significant, and she now feels insignificant?

First, apologize to your wife. Then consistently reassure her of your love for her and her beauty and keep your eyes focused on her and her alone. It will take a lot of time in order to regain her trust. So be patient and love her through the process and season of healing.

Sermon Question: Is it wrong to drink as long as I don't get drunk?

by oneadmin    |   Monday, May 25, 2009 at 12:39:00 AM

There is nothing wrong with Christians consuming alcohol, but getting drunk is definitely a sin (Ephesians 5:18). There are some additional things to consider, the weaker brother (Romans 14). It's probably not a good decision to drink around someone who struggles with alcoholism. For this reason it is good wisdom to make sure you are not offending anyone when drinking in a group setting. This is particularly important when you are with other Christians. If you are having dinner with someone it's a good decision to ask them if it is okay for you to order a drink. If they have a problem with it, it's not a good idea to press the issue any further.

So go ahead and have a drink, but don't forget who you are with.

QUESTION: Why do we do communion every Sunday instead of once a month?

by oneadmin    |   Sunday, March 01, 2009 at 7:57:00 PM
It may be helpful to say up front that our practice of communion every week is not based on any biblical injunction. The Bible gives us a lot of freedom and does not give us any guidelines as to when or how often we should perform this sacred practice. It only tells us to do it. Because communion is so sacred we felt that it was something we wanted to do every time our community gathered for corporate worship every Sunday.
