The Spiritual Discipline for the month of July is Fasting. This will also be a time for us to spend time in prayer about what God has planned for us in the fall.
Why We Fast
- To draw us closer to God. (Matt 4:4)
- To repent and seek forgiveness of sins. (1 John 1:9)
- To seek direction from God. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
- To help us keep balance in life. (1 Cor 6:12)
- To bring freedom in the fruit of the Spirit. (Gal 5:22)
Process of Our Fast
We are asking the church body to do the following:
- Fast from Sunday 3pm to Friday at midnight.
- Give up all food, TV, movies, gaming systems, music and electronic entertainment each day after 3pm until 7am the next morning.
- Spend the time you would normally do these activities doing spiritual based activities.
- Intentionally invest in your family and friends!
About Spiritual DisciplinesSpiritual disciplines will never come easily. Spiritual disciplines disrupt our lives and require us to sacrifice something – time, money, modern conveniences, food, etc. But the goal of practicing spiritual disciplines is always the same. We sacrifice something physical so that we can gain something spiritual – greater understanding of God, appreciation of quiet time, willingness to practice the fruits of the Spirit, intimacy with Christ, etc. Yes, practicing these disciplines will be difficult, but we encourage you to stick with it and share your challenges, insights and victories with others who are practicing the disciplines at One.
